| RISK nights will (hopefully) come back! |
Instead of writing rushed blog posts (because I don't do any other kind), I've been planning for the move and, this week in particular, will be packing up the current apartment.
There may be an adjustment period after the move, but you can expect two things coming up soon:
I have a backed up pile of comics to write about in a Pull List Review. About two months of comics, actually, so expect a shortened version.
I will be living up the street from a comic book store. I already have a pull list set up. What does this mean? It means you can expect Pull List reviews on a (very close to) weekly basis! They'll be smaller, easier to manage, AND relative to what's on shelves! Oh my!
So keep an eye out! In the meantime, listen to our Podcasts and, if you are so inclined, drop some comments about other things you'd like to see this Nerd write about.
What other games are good for a group?

Now, for my suggestions, I'd actually probably stay away from RISK unless you have a group already interested. The setup and game time exceeds any change for it to be a simple pick up game, unfortunately. Games that do go well, however, would be:
Texas Hold 'em Poker - fairly simple rules and a community-style card draw makes this game involved and interesting, though adding a betting system of some kind is almost needed.
Ride the Bus - another card game, this one is fun because it involves trading cards with the people next to you while trying to get as close to 31 points before the round ends. For the full rules, check Google for a set that works for you and yours. A "betting" system isn't exactly needed, but there should be some sort of tokens to represent "lives". If the tokens happen to be quarters that go to the winner, well, that works too.
Apples to Apples - to move away from traditional card games, Apples to Apples is a special set of cards you buy (and can buy expansions for) with pre-printed names and information on them. This is good for parties where you know people very well or want to get to know them, because the winner of each round is chosen by a judge, a position which rotates among the group every round.
Monopoly - an obvious choice, but Monopoly has so many variants out know that you can cherry pick a certain style of board to really fit well with either your group of friends or a party theme (I'm partial to Star Wars and Spider-Man versions).
I've got a lot more suggestions, but they tend to target specific groups of people, where the above can appeal to almost anyone. If you're looking for something more specific, let me know!
